About this deal

Charmian and her husband, George Johnston, also a writer, were inspired by a BBC documentary they had seen on a scheme to relocate the unemployed of the island’s declining sponge diving industry, on which the island of Kalymnos was reliant, to Darwin, Australia to revitalise the pearl industry there. They departed for the island perhaps in search of escape, both dispirited by the city life they lived. Arriving at the island, in the story's opening lines a fellow passenger on the boat cries "Mother of God!" between vomits, exclaiming in response to the sight of the two small children the couple have in tow. This cry epitomises the energy and emotion of the island’s residents, and they are not afraid to voice it. When you next visit a mermaid’s location, look around you and savour what you see. Why would this location be ripe for mermaid myths, compared to other places in the area? What springs to mind as you look at the weather, the lay of the land, and consider the lives of people who have passed this way centuries before? What do you see when you look out onto the waters? The story starts with a question for the reader to think about. Can you make a set of questions that could be used as interesting story starters? This mermaid’s tale was first recorded by folklorist William Bottrell in 1873. She came one day to the church at Zennor and everyone was taken with this beautiful stranger who sang the hymns so beautifully. The village folk had no idea that Morveren was one of the daughters of Llyr, king of the ocean. They clamoured for her attention, eager to hear her lovely voice, and put themselves forward as suitors. She took a liking to one man named Mathew Trewhella, said to have the best singing voice in Zennor. She smiled at him, bid him follow her to the cliffs, and Matthew Trewhella was never seen again.

One of the best, most beautiful and relaxing sound of myNoise. I usually don't like trebles but these appease me. Calming, relaxing, simply beautiful. Using this one to calm down after a long and stressful day at work. I just love it!

The waves crashing and the humming is truly beautiful. I love the enchanting feeling I get when I listen! Very helpful! This is the best generator of all - so hauntingly beautiful and perfect for work, relaxation and creative writing. And if you get tired of it, just refresh and there's a whole new sound that's just as good but also differently beautiful. Thank you so much for this! She lured the man who had spurned her so gracelessly to an underwater cave in the area with tales of the great hoard of treasure from sunken ships she held there. Needless to say, he was never seen again.

Associated with fertility and water, Atartgatis reminded her followers to conserve fish (something we could learn from today). Her worshippers never ate the fish swimming the lake near her temple, and adorned their heads with jewels. The first mermaid was worshipped, but since then, mermaids have also been feared as creatures who will conjure storms, steal human babies and lure fisherfolk and sea travellers to their deaths. This is really my go-to sound on here. I just love how it all meshes together to give me something almost ethereal to listen to when I'm trying to focus. The combination of the water and bubbles, the almost chorus like ringing, the quiet chanting voice, all of it just comes together to make it an easy choice for me. The story mentions a number of different types of fish. Can you find out the names of any more? How are they similar / different? I absolutely love Mermaids Calling; this mix makes me feel like the main character in a deep underwater fantasy! Definitely worth the donation!! <3 On reflection, they might have confessed to a naive attitude, but their act was brave. They didn't know what to expect, and the vivacity and colour of the culture and society they encountered is captured in an evocative, carefully observed narrative, often peppered with a wit and perspicacity that the reader feels privileged to share.

Her recollection at times reads like a lucid dream; she recalls - "in my memory everything is elemental, furious, beyond the edge of normality and control," which perfectly captures the essence of the book, leaving this review almost superfluous! In the scenes she witnesses - the carnivals, the celebrations, the mournful rituals of death and passing - her near non-sequitur commentary enlivens our own experience, suggesting more by what is not said, than by what is. Of a lively celebration, she observes:"Sevasti has a wild stare in her eyes as she studies two bottles - one of retzina (a Greek wine) and one of paraffin. It is clear she has mixed them up. No one pays any attention to that either." A mermaid’s physiology is as complicated as she is. Mermaid myths run as deep as the oceans they come from. Entwined in Britain’s folklore for centuries, mermaid sightings are by no means confined to coastal shores. Following the rivers upstream, mermaids have made homes for themselves in Britain’s lakes and pools, which are named after them to this day. I have never been diagnosed with ADHD, but I truly feel like I do. This really helps me. Thanks myNoise Mermaids Calling has me ready to leave all my Earthly possessions behind and take a dive in a faraway turquoise bay in the Mediterranean. I think I'm in love.

God, I'm in love with this one. It got me to actually stop feeling terrible and study. It's also super soothing for falling sleep, especially because I love the ocean and the whole idea of sirens at sea.Mermaids are stories, and stories are powerful. They shape the way we think and feel. Mermaids may only live in stories, but stories are real. Abouddahab, Rédouane, ed. (18 January 2011). " "The Imp of the Perverse": Female Crime Writers in Contemporary Scottish Fiction". Fiction, Crime, and the Feminine. Cambridge Scholars Publishing. p.82. ISBN 1443828289. Whatever she was, wherever she came from, one mermaid in particular was treated vilely by the citizens of Conwy. She was caught in the nets of local fishermen, and taken onto shore. As they paraded her around town, she began to choke to death, unable to breathe the air on land for such a long time. She could breathe in the sea, but here on land, she was drowing. Everyone ignored her pleas to be returned to the sea so that she might live. Here’s a lovely little show that makes a big splash. it thrills and charms, effortlessly transporting its audience from the depths of the ocean to dizzying high-wire feats in a circus big top’

A mermaid is half-human with a fish’s tail. Can you create a creature that is a mixture of two or more animals? I pair Mermaids Calling with Healing Water and I am obsessed! This combination is ethereal but still feels like it exists somewhere on Earth. I feel like I've been transported to an oasis from my dreams, and I am able to release tensions and allow my mind to think freely. I've been a patron for a bit because I absolutely adore the quality of the recordings, the diversity of what's offered and I've found some favorite gens I cannot live without and wanted to say thanks. However, I've never tried the magic gens until today. Just beautiful. I feel like I'm in another world. This was precisely what I needed right now. Mermaid sightings in the UK are often attributed to seals and superstition, but that’s not the whole story. The folk of the sea – both feared and revered – are an entrenched part of British folklore. It’s time to talk about how mermaid mythology still exerts a tidal pull on this windswept island. The first mermaid was an ancient Syrian goddess. In 1000 b.c., Atargatis (pictured above) dove into a lake with the desire to become a fish after accidentally killing a human shepherd she loved. Instead, she retained her human form from the waist up but her bottom half transformed into the tail of a fish.
