The La Sportiva TX5 GTX is an approach shoe designed for those carrying heavy loads or heading on longer hikes into the hills. The Danner shoes have good underfoot cushioning, with an EVA midsole and an insole with extra foam at the heel and forefoot area. There’s a TPU shank which gave good torsional stiffness and added stability on technical routes.

The fit of the La Sportiva TX5 Low GTX is slightly small and therefore a half size up to a size bigger is recommended. The shoes are suitable for normal feet. The ladies version is built on a ladies last that is narrower at the heel. Construction This test will tell you if the shape of the internal heel cup matches your heel to ensure it holds you securely, especially when ascending steep ground. We are trying to eliminate the dreaded heel blister. The design in understated, making them suitable for everyday use, as well as technical use on the hill.The La Sportiva TX5 Low GTX are super solid hiking and approach shoes that excel in stability. The leather upper and the good heel fixation keep the foot nicely in place. It is also nice that the heel is pulled forward when the laces are closed up, which contributes to that fixation. The Mountain Trainer 2 is, as its name suggests, aimed at walkers heading for the peaks and hills, and has features designed to provide stability and protection on technical routes. If you can see this amount of space then you are pretty much on the way to making sure that your boots are the correct size. This space between your toes and the end of the footbed ensures that you will not stub your toes on the inside of the boot when you descend. This can be excruciatingly painful. If you can’t see this amount of space then it’s a good bet that the boots will be too small.

Look a little closer into this brilliant boot and you'll notice every stitch, seam and join is meticulously crafted to ensure you're never let down. The soft padding of the tongue and around the ankles is very comfortable. The round heel and the semicircular shape of the forefoot make the La Sportivas extremely comfortable to walk on. The forefoot is quite broad and is medium volume, but the toe section narrows at the edges, which felt a little pinched for my feet. There was also a slight discomfort from time to time at the flex point at the base of the toes.
